Van Gogh painted The Bedroom three times. The first hung in the Yellow House at Arles, where he had gone to found an artists’ colony that never happened. He described it to his brother as a picture that should rest the mind — flat colour, no shadows, nothing to work out.
About the artist
Vincent van Gogh
Dutch, 1853–1890. Painted for roughly a decade and produced around two thousand works in it. Worked as an art dealer, a teacher and a lay preacher first.
