Claude Monet Collection
12 works
Water lilies, haystacks and the same view painted again and again.
Monet painted the same subjects repeatedly — haystacks, a lily pond, a railway station — not because he had run out of ideas but because the subject was never the point. The light was. Two paintings of the same stack of wheat, one at the end of summer and one at the end of the day, are two different pictures.
Which makes this a collection that rewards being left up. It changes because it was painted to.
About the artist
Claude Monet
French, 1840–1926. The painter whose Impression, Sunrise gave Impressionism its name, originally as an insult. He spent the last thirty years of his life painting a garden he had built himself at Giverny.
